Diets mostly fail! Many times this is due to the fact you restrict foods you like in order to lose weight or you simply do without food and you will have to eat sometime.
Lately, the world is buzzing about Low Carb or No Carb diets. These can be effective in the short term (although some live the diet of life and maintain), but there is an easier way.
Anyone that is over weight knows that "diet" is a four letter word that most of the letters spell "die", but we need something that is a change in our life not a short term method to control your will.
The answer is very simple and has to be tuned to your specific metabolism. For many people they simply eat far too many carbohydrates. Others eat too much food, at the wrong time of day or not often enough. You have a life style that makes your body produce, not reduce stored fat.
Okay, we all know that. Well, the answer is simply, eat smaller portions more often and most of the time, make sure your meals are balanced in Fat, Protein and Carbohydrates. If this is your lifestyle, you will lose weight. All of these work together, if they are small balanced frequent meals, your body will work as designed and your metabolism will fly.
One of the first thing to do, is take your daily food intake and divide it up into at least five meals per day. If you are eating on a platter, move down to about a four to five inch diameter small plate. Do not crowed the plate with food, it does not need to be heaping or pouring over the edges. Eat half a meal on wait 10-15 minutes. If you are still hungry, eat the rest.
Notice I said hungry, not full. You should really never be full, that is when your body has told you that you have eat too much and by the time you notice it, you have usually put twice that amount into your body. That stretches your stomach and makes you want more next time.
The point is to eat many times per day providing your body enough fuel to make it a few hours and not enough to store it. Many of us, do not eat enough meals and it throws our body into starvation mode. Once there, it will store anything that comes in because it is concerned that it will not get more. You will also stand a chance of losing muscle mass thus lowering your metabolism, meaning you will burn even less food and store more.
When you are eating 5-7 times per day and have found the right size and balance of meals, you will begin to lose weight. You can typically lose 15-30 pound per month if you are a large person. You also will get tired of eating since you have so many meals.
You will usually find that you are unbelievably hungry before you next meal. That hunger should start 15-30 minutes before you next meal. If it is earlier, then you need to increase your portion since you body is requiring more. Of course, you should try it with the smaller portion for a few days before increasing, as that will give you stomach time to shrink and you will not get as hunger as quick.
One of the main things that changes your metabolism is muscle tone and mass. The better shape your muscles are in the more food you will burn. If your meals are small and you find your are hungry too often, you can increase your exercise which will increase your metabolism and you will burn more and still lose weight.
This is not really a diet, it is a change of your fat producing lifestyle. In that you will find times when you will blow it and eat too much (such as Thanksgiving) or skip some meals and throw your burning of food off. Simply get right back on the ball and keep going. If it is a little slip every now and then, it will not affect you at all. Your body will be a furnace and will rip right through it. Too often and you flame will become colder and not burn as well.
Some people might ask how they keep this going when they go out to dinner or lunch. Simple, get use to the term doggie bag! That is all it takes, make two or three meals out of that one and do not let your mind convince you that it will not taste as good heated up, when you have your portion and frequency in tune just about anything will taste great when it is time to eat :)
So, the main focus of you food intake should be multiple small balanced meals. If you want to kick it into high gear and lose even more weight or eat bigger meals, add more exercise to the mix. You will lose the pounds once you move your lifestyle from a fat producing to a fat reducing one.
Instead of thinking "what can I eat this meal", try changing your mindset to "What will it take for me to eat in order to make it to the next meal three hours away?". By this one change you will find that there are a lot of cuts you will take simply because you do not need them.
It is like an alcholic, they are told to go day by day. For us that diet it is simply meal by meal. Do not think ahead, just what will it take to make you not hungry (never full) until the next meal. There is a little victory on every meal!
We need to teach our body to graze throughout the day, not feast. Many small meals throughout the day and you will loose the pounds. You should be able to become comfortable on two cups or less of food per meal.
