This year, I was wrapping some windows for winter with heat shrink plastic.  The type I use comes with double sided tape that you put around your window and then affix the clear plastic sheet on to it.

The double sided tape comes in a roll, that when you unwrap it, there is a wax paper backing on the tape.  Last year I wasted a lot of time trying to get this backing to peel off as it was hard to get it started.  This year I tried something new, I would take about a quarter of an inch of tape of the end of the tape and fold it over where the sticky parts of the tape would fuse.  Then I would strap at the edge I just stuck together and the backing would come up but the sticky side of the tape stuck to itself and made the separation easy.  This saved a great deal of time this year!

Another tip is that the plastic sheets come folded out of the package.  It can take a great deal of time to try separating the plastic sheet as it is so thin.  This year, I even had to look again at the box to make sure I got the right size because it did not want to come apart and seemed to be single thickness.  After spending 15 minutes or more trying to get a sheet to unfold, I tried blowing down on the edge and they came apart.  That one saved me a lot of time this year also!

As a side note, if you have not used shrink wrap to insulate your windows before and find you have some drafts or too much cold comes in through the glass, check into this plastic.  It is simple to put up and even though the brand I buy says it is for indoor use (the inside of the windows), it seems to work great and last the winter on the outside.  The process if fairly quick, you simply put the double sided tape around your windows, stick the clear plastic sheet on it and then user your blow dryer to shrink the plastic to a perfect tight fit.  Great stuff and really helps on the electric bill.
