After the recent Windows update, when I would right click on the desktop, my system would take long period of time to respond, or no longer respond, the screen appeared froze and refused to update any more.
While browsing the task list, I noticed a file called “verclsid.exe” in the task list. Killing this process seemed to restore usability of the system again. I dug a bit around the net and found that this is an error in the recent update and MS recommends removing that update. Some pointed to simply going into the \Windows\System32 folder and renaming the verclsid.exe to verclsid.bak (or to any name). I did the renamed the file and the system seems to work fine!

At this time - July 10, 2006, the problem seems to continue. Even with more updates the verclsid.exe is still causing problems. The easy fix of just renaming it seems to take care of the problem.
