Another very wise, not commonly used neutralizer is that of vinegar-water mixture, you would per each gallon of water, one cup of vinegar.

Weather permitting open those windows to allow the carpet to properly dry, or while within the winter season go find that summer oscillating fan you put away till next season.
Above all, keep everyone away from tracking their dirty feet over your carpet until that carpet is dry.
