In the Version 1.0 of FireFox, you can enable the browser to open new window links from pages to a new tab instead.
Go to about:config
Search for "borswer.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs" and change to "true".
Now, in your Tools > Options > Advanced > Tabbed Browsing menu, you will have an option to force links that open new windows to open new tabs.
Another handy thing if you have FireFox as your default browser, is when you having an application or link that opens a browser (such as double clicking on a link on your desktop), you can force it to open a new browser instead of taking over a browse window that you already have open.
This is simply in the Tools > Options > Advanced > Tabbed Browsing menu. Set the "Open links from other applications in:" to new window or maybe new tab in the recent window.
